Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a well known English lullaby and Nursery Rhyme.
The lyrics are taken from an early 19th Century English poem, written by Jane Taylor, titled “The Star” that was first published in 1806.
The song’s melody is taken from an old French song “Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman”, which was published in 1761.

With it’s simple melody and rhythm, this song teaches children so much!
The melody uses 5 successive notes or d r m f s and the rhythm is made up of only two rhythms – ta and ti-ti (crotchet and quavers/quarter note and eighth notes).
The opening melody is dd ss which is a perfect fifth interval. The ending is ff mm rr d which is a step by step descending melody line.
It is also a lovely fingerplay and action song.
