One Two Three Four Five is a popular English counting rhyme and song. The modern version is derived from three variations collected by Henry Bolton in the 1880’s from America. According to Wikipedia: “The rhyme is one of many counting-out rhymes.

It was first recorded in Mother Goose’s Melody around 1765. Like most versions until the late nineteenth century, it had only the first stanza, and dealt with a hare not a fish.”

Apart from the obvious educational benefits of learning and practising counting, this song can also be used as a fingerplay song.

It is also a fantastic song for introducing Question and Answer or part singing.

For example, parents and teachers can introduce the Q &A  concept by singing the questions, “Why did you let him go?”/”Which finger did he bite?” Children sing the answer “Because he bit my finger so”/ “This little finger on my right.”
