The Farmer In The Dell is a popular, traditional singing game.
Wikipedia states that “It probably originated in Germany and was brought to America by immigrants. From there, it spread to many other nations and is popular in a number of languages.”

Children love this circle game, which traditionally has a number of characters skipping around the inside of a circle.
The game ends with “we all eat/chase the cheese” which can become a chase game. Or, the children in the circle pretend to eat the “cheese” in the middle of the circle.
This traditional game need to be modified for young children, as it is too complex.
The emphasis could be on making it a simple circle dance, moving only to the left and right, where children take it in turns to wear props that match each chosen character. The last line could become” the cheese runs away.”
